PRAY

Currently, in Mississippi, there are approximately 4,000 children in foster care and approximately 1,600 of those children awaiting adoption. Two of our state’s greatest needs are licensed foster and adoptive parents and support resources for foster and adoptive parents.

Intercede on behalf of the orphan; praying Scripture over the fatherless:

Psalm 9:9

9 The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

Hosea 14:3

3 Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride on horses; and we will say no more, ‘Our God,’ to the work of our hands. In you the orphan finds mercy.”

John 14:18

18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Psalm 10:17-18

17 O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear

18 to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.

Psalm 68:5-6

5 Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.

6 God settles the solitary in a home; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

Psalm 82:3

3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.

Deuteronomy 10:18

18 He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing.

Pray and ask how God is calling you to engage in care for the orphan.

Protect Children and Families Prayer Guide:

  • A strong support system for older youth who may be aging out of orphanages or the foster care system

FAMILIES

  • Single-parent families in the U.S. to be financially stable and have support from local believers in their parenting journey
  • Widows overseas who often experience social ostracization to find community
  • Healing for the families who have lost siblings and parents to disease, poverty or neglect

THE CHURCH

  • Congregations to welcome and support adoptive and foster families in their journeys
  • Members to offer practical financial and emotional support as they undergo the adoptive process
  • Open hearts and homes willing to offer vulnerable children safety and nurturing

CULTURAL SHIFTS

  • The countries whose societal structures put orphans and widows at a disadvantage
  • Children in the foster care system to experience stable and loving homes
  • Workers in Child Protective Services and adoption centers to not grow weary and overwhelmed
